Stories of Resilience

You’ve been a great supporter of our work. Will you consider giving today so we can continue giving youth a second chance?

The Rest of theStory

While we believe we make impact on each youth who walks through our doors, much of what we see and hear is not shared here. Sometimes it’s simply too painful for those doing the work, or to those of us writing about it. Sometimes it’s too identifying, and it requires total omission to respect confidentiality. Sometimes, the things we see, hear and experience just can’t be polished for the internet without omitting the most pertinent details.

Homeless and at-risk youth come to us with complexities that can not be unraveled quickly or easily; not all of our kids rise out of homelessness and immediately learn to put their fingerprints on our world in a positive way. Homelessness is full of twists, turns and the unexpected. It can take a long time and many encounters with rock bottom to unpack, address and power through the issues. We stand patiently with them as they endure this process.

And we don’t lose hope. We continue to listen without judgement, provide a safe place to land, and embrace the power of never giving up. And hope that every youth who walks through our doors ends up in a story of resiliency.

Homeless to Marine Recruit

Adam came through our doors in April, shortly after his 18th birthday. He grew up bouncing between foster care placements and the youth shelter…until his 18th birthday. Still a senior in high school, he “aged out” of the youth system.
